The Mexborough & Swinton Traction Co, like Yorkshire Traction was a BET controlled company. However, this former trolleybus operator was still partly owned by British Rail and remained a separate entity. This began to change in 1967, when closer ties between these neighbouring operators became evident with several vehicle exchanges taking place between the companies. The picture shows Yorkshire Traction 403 (EHE948) standing alongside Mexborough & Swinton 58 (YWT58), when on loan to Mexborough & Swinton in the late 1960s. On the 1st January 1969 the entire shareholding in both companies passed to the National Bus Company, bringing both companies into common ownership. As a result, Mexborough & Swinton Traction Company Limited was absorbed into the Yorkshire Traction Company on the 1st October 1969, bringing to an end over sixty years of Company service in the Don Valley. M&STC 58 became 680 in the Yorkshire Traction Fleet. Source: www.petergould.co.uk/local_transport_history/fleetlists/m...
